CHARACTER: CANON SECTION
NAME: Robin
AGE: Unspecified; Assumed to be in his early to mid 20s
CANON: Fire Emblem: Awakening

CANON HISTORY: Link here.

Given the way the players decisions can change small details about the character and how the story ends, I wish to clarify a few things. Firstly: Robin is a male, and unmarried for the sake of simplicity. I will leave the nuances of Chrom's marriage in canon (and, subsequently, who Lucina's mother is) ambiguous if it ever comes up in gameplay. Along this line, Robin has yet to meet his child, Morgan, or any other children that he may have with whomever his wife ends up being.

Secondly: I wish to play it so that Robin made the decision to deliver the finishing blow upon Grima himself-- at the cost of his own life, unless his bonds with the rest of the Shepherds is strong enough to allow him to continue with his life.

CANON PERSONALITY:

Although he is described as being the most mysterious among the Shepherds due to his lack of memory and shrouded origins, Robin is a congenial individual and a creative tactician whose strategies-- though called 'crazy'-- are unparalleled in their brilliance and effectiveness. Despite his amnesia, Robin doesn't angst over it. Instead, he cherishes each of the friendships he's made since joining the Shepherds, and the memories he has made has become his new narrative in his life. He is highly perceptive of the feelings of the people around him partly in thanks to his strategic mindset, and he is able to see through ruses or cut to the heart of the issues bothering his comrades in the span of a few conversations. Additionally, he is highly tolerant of the variety of quirks among his peers and is willing to play along with them-- even when it takes a physical toll on him. In his campaign to get fit with Sully, for example, he went and devoured a handful of the same seaweed that had given Sully severe digestive problems because she didn't use the supplement as directed. Sharing the pain with her only felt right in his mind, especially since he was the one who provided the seaweed in the first place! Not even Frederick, the wary knight, is immune-- Robin teased him about eating bear throughout their process of helping Frederick's tolerance for wild meats-- at one point just to get petty revenge on Frederick for comparing Robin to the likes of a savage for being willing to eat such foodstuffs-- and even bestowed the moniker 'Fredericson' upon him during this process.

While he is among the calmer of the Shepherds, it's plain that he's not above his own brand of whimsical play.

However, there are also times when the antics of his fellow Shepherds do drive him to exasperation. Gaius and his repeated offers of sweets and other sundry items in order to placate an imagined threat of blackmail from Robin after Robin caught sight of his prison tattoo is an example of this. Gaius' repeated offers of gifts and presents to 'break even' drove Robin to the point where he raised his voice in his frustration-- only to learn that, in Gaius experience, there is no such thing as a 'favor'. It was only then that Robin realized what was happening, and he told Gaius an embarrassing secret to fulfill Gaius' needs in that moment.

He is fond of reading in his free time and, despite his tactical capabilities, has been known to lose strategy games because of his unwillingness to sacrifice a single pawn in order to win. This tendency shows in his battle strategies, where he relies on diversions and deceptions like allowing half of a naval fleet to go up in flames after ensuring all of the soldiers were safely aboard other vessels in order to make their enemies believe they have actually won the battle-- when the reality is actually the reverse. He cares deeply about his companions, but is also proud of his skills as a strategist; losing repeated chess games against Virion is enough to make him feel dejected, even though it's his care for the lives of everyone in the army that has allowed the Shepherds to come as far as they have. His support conversations with Tiki, the Voice of the Divine Dragon Naga, lampshades this; Tiki repeatedly points out that Robin's kind heart is a big part of why she compares him to the legendary Hero King Marth, despite the fact that Lucina is the one who bears an uncanny physical resemblance to him.

Indeed, it is Robin's big heart and ability to see beyond slights both current and in the past that allow Robin to see the potential for alliances among those who used to be enemies. Tharja's recruitment on the Plegain battlefield and Gaius recruitment during his participation in an attempt to assassinate Lady Emmeryn are examples of this-- as is his willingness to fight beside the likes of the Mad King Gangrel, who catalyzed a war with Ylisse during the first arc of the game before he was overthrown. Lon'qu is also a former enemy, who fought against the Shepherds during the battle to decide who the next Khan of Regna Ferox would be. Henry, similarly, is a black mage who defected from Plegia at the onset of a battle. All of these people over the course of the game become a part of the collective bonds, the invisible ties that hold the Shepherds together-- and ultimately are part of the reason why Robin is able to maintain his existance in the world if the players take that option in the finale of the game.

Beyond his tactical skills, Robin also has his insecurities regarding the more mundane aspects of life. He isn't terribly confident in his cooking abilities despite his willingness to eat darn near anything that's placed in front of him, and there are points when he questions whether he actually belongs by Chrom's side. Lady Emmeryn's fall in Plegia is an example of this, because Robin ultimately blamed himself for the Exalt's apparent death despite the fact that Emmeryn ultimately took the decision out of everyone's hands.

The reveal that Robin was born to be a vessel for the Fell Dragon Grima was a crushing blow to his spirit that shook his confidence even in himself. The suggestion from Lucina that Robin may indeed be the one to deliver the killing blow to Chrom-- and become history's villain that causes her bleak future-- didn't help in this matter in the least. His trust in himself, and whether or not the rest of the Shepherds could even trust the hands of someone whose body could be taken over in an instant and used against them, shook Robin to the point that-- depending on player choice-- he was willing to let Lucina kill him to prevent that fate from happening. Chrom's kind support despite the dire circumstances of having lost the Fire Emblem to the Grimleal helped Robin reaffirm the truth for himself.

Because, no matter what one future may dictate, it is only one future. 'Fate' wasn't something that controlled their lives, but something that was in their hands. They had already changed 'fate' through the bonds formed with Chrom and the rest of the Shepherds, and 'fate' could be changed again by their will.

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Robin is a unit of the Tactician class-- meaning that he is skilled with swords, elemental magic, and has a keen eye for analysis that allows him to understand the core of his enemies with only a glance. The latter is partly to explain the gameplay mechanic of how the Player is able to see the specific stats of friendly and enemy soldiers on the field, and see the odds of winning an encounter before making a decision. As a note: despite being a vessel for the Fell Dragon Grima, Robin is not able to learn dark magic skills by ordinary means.

To make play easier in a game, I will not be playing Robin beyond his base class.

In addition to the combat skills, Robin also has two class skills called Veteran and Solidarity-- both of these skills allow paired up and adjacent allies to have a higher rate of EXP gain and an increased chance of landing a Critical Hit or of evading a blow. In narrative practice, these can be extrapolated as being an extension of Robin's pedantic habits and his gregarious, open nature.

Beyond the class related and combat skills, Robin is also an avid reader with a fondness for history-- although he will read fictional works that strike his interest. He is excellent at reading and befriending a variety of people from all different backgrounds, and the people who encounter him generally have a positive opinion of his nature.

CHARACTER: AU SECTION
AU NAME: Robin Thorrsson
AU AGE: 30
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: Besides the fact that Robin is obviously older than his canon counterpart, his hair and eyes are also a natural brown and build is somewhat more solid and muscular than it would be in canon-- thanks to a lifetime with a proper diet and his military training. He sustained an injury to his leg in the service which bothers him, but it's nothing that he can't handle.

Additionally, he doesn't bear the Mark of Grima on his right hand.
